What do you need to know about me?
I
am a Salem, NH based photographer. While a molecular
biologist by
trade, photography has grown to ever-increasing importance in my
life. I consider myself primarily a nature photographer,
preferring to take pictures of flowers, animals, scenic vistas and the
like. My photographic landscape sprawls from the mountains of
New
Hampshire and the coast of Maine to the deserts of Arizona and the rain
forests of Costa Rica.
Commercial and small-product photography has,
however, become an increasingly important part of my business.
While, yes, it does help pay the bills, it actually poses an
interesting and unique set of challenges to overcome.
I find things to shoot nearly everywhere I go. It doesn't
matter to me whether I'm standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon or if
I'm on my hands and knees taking pictures of a tiny flower in my
hometown of Chelmsford, MA. Good photographic subjects are
all around me. I have never taken any classes in this, but
rather have taught myself new techniques as the need has arisen.
You can be the judge of my results.
For
those who are curious, I have piles of equipment. I shoot with a Canon 6D
full-frame DLSR camera, with battery grip (let's me shoot longer, makes the camera
fit my hands better and adds some vertical shooting functionality). I use
a Canon 24-105mm f/2.8 L series lens mainly, plus some backup Sigma lenses if
needed - 50mm f/2.8 1:1 macro, 18-200mm, 28-300mm. I use a Canon 430EX
flash. There's also some portrait lighting equipment, a Canon 40D as a
backup body, a couple compact cameras and various accessories for all of the
above. Did I mention I'm a little obsessed?
